North America Works and National Forum on Trade Policy
Enhancing North America’s Competitiveness in a Changing World

November 4-6, 2009
Kansas City, Missouri
Kaufmann Foundation
The conference program for November 5 will feature top speakers from government and business presenting at the Kauffman Foundation Conference Center in Kansas City, Missouri. During selected sessions, attendees at satellite locations around the U.S., Mexico, and Canada will interact virtually with the attendees in Kansas City. By bringing together regionally diverse groups of business leaders, university faculty, and policy makers, the discussion will highlight the intersecting trade and transportation issues that broadly affect North America and underscore the unique challenges within certain regions. The meeting will have both an East-West and North-South discussion axis. Ultimately, this is a policy-oriented conference focused on the local response to international trade opportunities.
Participants in Kansas City will have the opportunity to attend an evening reception on November 4 and visit various industrial sites around the city on November 6.
CIBERs across the U.S. are encouraged to coordinate November 5 meetings in their states. These "satellite locations" will allow local government officials and business leaders to participate in the larger conference without the expense of travel. Using videoconferencing and chat technologies, participants will be able to listen to and interact with national speakers and well-known leaders in business presenting in Kansas City. In some locations, breakout sessions may be held to allow participants to discuss important trade issues specific to that particular region. Remote sessions may also include some participants from universities and colleges in those regions, as well as interested students.
