This page lists key educational publishers in finance and names some of each
publisher's leading books and the acquisition editor with responsibility for
finance. If you have an interest in writing a book you will typically need
to submit a
proposal to
one or more of these editors. You will normally want to explain the hows,
whys and whens of your new book idea and then submit three or four sample
chapters for review.
The list on this page has changed dramatically since its
inception in 1995 because of heavy consolidation in educational
publishing. The total finance textbook market involves sales
of roughly $50 million per year.
Today, there are essentially three major players left in the
educational finance publishing game (Dryden, Irwin/McGraw Hill and
Prentice-Hall/Addison-Wesley).
These companies jointly have more than 75% of the market share in finance
text adoptions and generally do a good job in getting relevant books to
the market. Because of the consolidation, however, it is becoming
increasingly difficult to publish your new book. The key is to identify a
real need in the market and to put together a credible author team. It will
often pay to contact other players including
Blackwell, Southwestern and Wiley. A final alternative is to consider
self-publishing on the net or going with one of the newer electronic
publishers such as Etext,
Knowledge
Wire, UOL Publishing
or Zoologic.
Consolidation or not, with these online new players, rapid globalization
of financial education,
increasing quality among
traditional publishers and the renaissance in self-publishing, the future
of educational materials in finance has never been brighter.
