   Living in Columbus

Ohio’s capital city of Columbus has a population of approximately 730,000 and is the 15th largest  city in the United States.  Residence of Columbus enjoy a moderate cost of living compared to other major American cities.

Arts and Entertainment

Many performing arts venues in Columbus host productions of various performing arts groups including Broadway in ColumbusOpera Columbus and BalletMet.  Columbus is also home to exciting collegiate and professional sports teams like the Ohio State football and basketball teams, the Columbus Blue Jackets professional hockey team, and Major League Soccer’s Columbus Crew.  A more extensive list of local attractions can be found on the web at www.experiencecolumbus.com.

Schools

Past KAIST students with families have enrolled  their children in some of the public schools in the campus area and have been pleased with the quality of them.  Rankings, statistics and other information on the various school districts in and around Columbus can be found on the web at www.greatschools.net or http://ilrc.ode.state.oh.us/

Shopping

Two of the most popular shopping options available in the Columbus area are the Easton Town Center, a large open air shopping center featuring a over 160 stores, and the recently completed Polaris Fashion Place, an upscale 1.5 million square foot enclosed shopping mall            containing over 150 specialty stores and 7 major department stores. 

Travel

Located within a 500 mile radius of nearly 50% of the US population, Columbus is a reasonable traveling distance from many popular destinations. Some of the cities to which past KAIST students have enjoyed trips include, Niagara Falls, Washington D.C., Chicago, Boston, and New York.

Golf

Golf is a very popular sport in Columbus.  Students can find information the the seven municipal courses in the Columbus at http://recparks.columbus.gov/.  Information on the hundreds of other golf courses in Ohio is available at  www.ohiogolf.org
