Jean Helwege

Assistant Professor of Finance

Professor Helwege joined the Fisher College of Business in 1998, after having worked in the Federal Reserve system for ten years.  She was a senior economist for the Federal Reserve Bank of New York from 1994 until 1998.  Her time at the NY Fed was devoted to research on corporate finance topics, including capital structure choice, high-yield bonds, financial distress, and initial public offerings.  Earlier, Professor Helwege was an economist for the Federal Reserve Board, where she also did research on corporate finance as well as collected and analyzed data on corporate bonds, share repurchases, mergers, bond ratings and bankruptcy.  Her early years at the Board involving analysis of the savings and loan crisis.  Professor Helwege teaches financial institutions (Finance 726 and 826).
